Here's a three part quiz on percentages. Something to think about while you watch your portfolio sink below the horizon and your retirement age recede into the future. I will accept exact answers, or good approximations derived from the rule of 72.
(1) If your portfolio loses 1% per day, as it has seemed to recently, how long will it take to lose half your money? All of it?
(2) If the stock market increases 1% per day, how many days will it take to double, thus roughly taking it back to its peak of 14164.53 in October 2007?
(3) How long will it take to get back to where it was two years ago if it increases at 9% per year (which used to be considered a conservative estimate of long term return, but is starting to look really good)
