Green With Self-Loathing
There almost seems to be a natural progression among environmentalists. As they become more extreme, they go from a healthy love of Mother Earth to a hatred; first of large corporations, then Republicans, then "progress" in general and finally of all mankind.
This article profiles Les Knight, founder of the "Voluntary Human Extinction Movement", who is clearly on one extreme of the spectrum:
"We can't be breeding right now. It's obvious that the intentional creation of another [human being] by anyone anywhere can't be justified today..."
"Other than a few examples of tribal societies, we never have lived sustainably. We're so dangerously clever that we can become very civilized and industrialized and separate ourselves from nature. Most of the people who do live close to nature are just a hand ax and a shotgun away from starting on the slippery slope that leads to driving around and talking on cell phones."
The movement's website thoroughly describes their rationale, as well as the plague that we humans have brought upon this planet:
"When every human chooses to stop breeding, Earth's biosphere will be allowed to return to its former glory, and all remaining creatures will be free to live, die, evolve (if they believe in evolution), and will perhaps pass away, as so many of Mother Nature's "experiments" have done throughout the eons. Good health will be restored to the Earth's ecology... to the 'life form' known by many as Gaia."
One wonders, if they all weren't vegans, whether or not they would be promoting cannibalism.
Personally, I'm quite happy with my choice to help bring three wonderful children into this world. I've taken my risks, snail darters be damned.

WOW this is great one.
I was waiting when someone will come with such "bright" idea because it's very logical, there is to many of us on this planet.
Well let's wait and see who will join, in extreme cases it could become same scenario as by Jim Jones (People's Temple Christian Church) style mass suicides.
BTW check this one. It's such amusing analysis The Naïve Vegetarian, or on my blog "Why carnivores have never bombed groceries?"

Boris, you are indespensible! My son is quite thoughtful, but I think still in the "Naive Vegetarian" category. I sent him the link.

This I call good luck, moment I have published the link "The Naïve Vegetarian" on your blog it's gone! "Invalid URL or Page No Longer Exists"

Boris, the link works for me. Great stuff!
This discussion reminds me of a Simpson's episode where Lisa tried to become a vegetarian because a boy she had a crush on was one.
When she talked to him about being a "vegetarian", he corrected her:
"No, no. I'm a Level 3 Vegan"
"Level 3?"
"Yes. I don't eat anything that casts a shadow."

MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I eat a high protein, high fat, low high-glycemic carbohydrate (not zero carbs) diet, I rarely have hunger pains and never have the after lunch crash.

BTW, the Naive Vegetarian site Boris mentioned has a category of whacko called the "Breatharian" that supposedly believes you can get all of your nutrients from breathing. Eventually. You work toward that, slowly weaning yourself from food. I think the movement's founder invented as a sick joke and a way to make money off of gullible pre-anorexics. IIRC, he was "busted" coming out of a fast food joint.

Breatharian is serious stuff (for the idiots) we had here case here that one women died from it some 10 years ago and the "spiritual leader" from them has said on TV that she did not understand the instructions, my impression was she understood them very well.
